I’m pictured here in the spring of 2025 with my first blue ribbon, awarded for my piece Intertidal Zone — a framed, glazed tile panel available here on my website. Many thanks to the Turner Center for the Arts in Valdosta, GA, for the honor.

I think of myself as a painter first and a ceramicist second. Sometimes I make my own tiles, and other times I work on pre-made blanks. I fell in love with tiles during two visits to Portugal’s mountainous regions, where they seem to be everywhere — an endless source of inspiration. Alongside tile work, I also create hand-built pottery.

Over the years, I’ve worn many creative hats: freelance artist, muralist, sign painter, Hallmark shop owner (thanks, Dad!), public school art teacher, college adjunct instructor, and community art maker and teacher. Today, at 71, I’m happily retired and enjoying my home studio in Moultrie, GA. My days are relaxed and unhurried, allowing me to work with intention and reflection.

“Art is an act of the soul, not the intellect. When we are dealing with people's dreams — their visions, really — we are in the realm of the sacred. We are involved with forces and energies larger than our own. We are engaged in a sacred transaction of which we know only a little: the shadow, not the shape.”
Julia Cameron

That quote captures my own approach to art making. Perhaps we can collaborate on one of your visions someday!
